The cemeteries are the place where we as humans have shifted our memories and identity into eternity through an image. The cemeteries were the first houses of mankind and history shows that they not only had a religious significance, but also played the most important role in the formation of an identity for the people and the preservation of this same identity with the culture in memories and consciousness. The photo project “Cemeteries” (Ongoing) documents the cemeteries of Jews in Germany and Armenian in Turkey which were expropriated and used for other purposes since the National Socialism and founding of modern Turkey. The images, including shopping malls, playgrounds, sacred places, residential and industrial buildings, show not only the current state of the former cemeteries, but also indirectly a broader spectrum of the conflict between minorities and power.
